Hello,
We're brand new to Missoula. My husband's birthday is quickly approaching and I'm hoping to take him to a restaurant that has things we just never got living in Seattle, such as trout, or game meat. If anyone has any thoughts, I could use the advice. I'd like to stay somewhere within an hour's drive of Missoula.
Thanks for your help

Re: Restaurant recommendation around Missoula?
Fri, June 22, 2007 - 8:57 AMWell, my recommendation to you, although I don't think they serve wild game, is the Lolo Steakhouse. It's a great log cabin with steaks and fish, and one of every animal you could possibly think of in the world hung up on the walls. It's a pretty cool place with really tasty food. It's just south of Missoula about 10 miles down 93 south, and then east on 12 for about a mile and a half. Enjoy! -

Fri, June 22, 2007 - 10:01 AMThanks for the recommendation. We passed it yesterday on the way to the hot springs - the building looked pretty neat. They even have some seafood I see.
Thanks! -

Re: Restaurant recommendation around Missoula?
Fri, June 22, 2007 - 9:43 PMmy experience is that the best way to get wild game in montana is to know someone who actually hunts it. that's how I get mine.
you may be able to find a place that serves local buffalo burger. might not get too much of that in seattle. -

Re: Restaurant recommendation around Missoula?
Fri, June 22, 2007 - 10:29 PMDefinitely true, not really gonna find wild game in any restaurant except maybe as a specialty dish (as far as I remember anyways). So meet some folks who hunt, or start hunting. And if you ever get your hands on some antelope backstrap, know that you will have tasted what is possibly the tastiest meat you will ever have.... :) -

Re: Restaurant recommendation around Missoula?
Sat, June 23, 2007 - 7:35 AMThat was what I figured. I remember growing up fishing with my dad and the fish we caught and ate all the time you could never find in a restaurant. We did find lots of places around Big Sky, which we may hit on our way to Yellowstone in a few months.
We decided to go the 515 - they had trout on the menu, but it was the look of the deserts that caught my attention.
Thanks for the tips! -

Sat, June 23, 2007 - 9:04 AMNever even heard of it! That must something that popped up since I left Missoula a few years ago, lol, restaurants and businesses in general have a way of showing up one day and being gone the next in that town; keeps things interesting! Enjoy your dinner! :) -

Tue, June 26, 2007 - 7:47 AMThe 515 was great - I highly recommend it. The service was wonderful, and since bad service can ruin even a good meal, it's important. They make an onion soup without beef broth (a plus for me). The chef had a bit of a gourmet salt fetish, but other than that, the food was great. Definitely high-end food, but tasty, and for us a good treat for my husband's birthday. Desert was fabulous. The wines available as wine flights were great too.

Wed, June 27, 2007 - 2:58 PMJay. 515 used to be The Bridge. Now the Bridge has moved across where Crystal video used to be and does more lunchy 'quick' style food & pizza. Like $2.25 pizza by the slice.
I think that 515 is OK..... but you should have had the had the calamari at the Bridge Restaurant. mmmmmmmm.... -
